BRASSED OFF

Bebbington Dramatic Society

Director:   David Oliver assisted by Pip Lewis

I think Brassed Off is one of the most popular plays around at the moment, always playing to full houses, as did Bebbington?s production.

I have never seen this play without an excellent brass band. and this production was no exception with the Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass Band.

Eric Lewis. as Danny. played his part with sincerity which was sustained throughout. Charles Riley. as Phil, his son. also gave a good performance, and Pauline Garland, as his long suffering wife, Sandra, with four children~ no money and a husband who put his music before everything else. had everyone?s sympathy right from the start.

The empty pram was rather off-putting, however. There are some good baby dolls on the market that, covered up, would have been more realistic.

Paul Logan played Shane, their eldest son, who was rather tall for the part. but his acting ability soon had us forgetting his height. All the other parts were well cast. each one bringing their own character to life.

The Gladstone stage is rather small for all these people but the director made good use of the theatre auditorium when the band marched from town to town in the various competitions The choice of music was particularly good. Thank you for a very entertaining night.

   Success at The Leverhulme Festival

Our production of Neil Simon's 'Man On The Floor' on Friday went extremely well and adjudicator Scott Marshall was very complimentary on all the performances and the staging. On Saturday night he nominated Joe McKeown as Dr McMerlin for 3 awards : The Adjudicator's Award, Best Comedy Performance and Best Supporting Performance, and awarded him The June Butler Laureate Cup for Best Supporting Performance. Well done to Joe! and all the cast and crew. This was a great achievement as we were competing with 21 plays over the two weeks.

Congratulations from all the Band. (Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass.)
Well Done Bebington

Massed Bands. Vale Park. 02/09/07.

The format was to be changed this year whereby there would be only one solo band performance thus giving more time to feature massed bands.
Greenalls were the solo band and they started off the proceedings well under the direction of John Luddon. After their performance of approx. 45 mins they were to be joined by Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass(Cyril Dare) and Ellesmere Port Silver(Eddy Pickering).
Alas! Greenalls had 3 more items to play when the heavens opened, having been a threat all day, and the concert had to be curtailed at this early stage. A decision was made to await the Mayor of Birkenhead and Party for the Flag Raising and then a final decision was to be made.  Unfortunately after the flag raising the weather deteriorated further so the final decision was to abandon the concert altogether.
A disappointment to both audience and band personnel.
However we have to be optimistic and hope for a good day next year and we promise our loyal audience a day to remember. Thanks to all concerned in the management and arrangement  of todays event. Sorry "Rusty" we tried our best for you. See you all in 2008.

It is with sadness that I have to announce the passing away of Peter(White) our Chairman and BBb Bass Player. It is such a shock to all, hard to come to terms with.
We all remember you Peter with warmest thoughts, how could we forget you with all your humour and anecdotes and your expert Chairmanship.
All our thoughts and sympathy are extended to Barbara and family.

Congratulations

It would appear that the update of the Music Player now requires a manual start
by clicking on the "play" button. (Perhaps as a means of Bandwidth Saving)
